Today, at the House of Lords launch of a new study that advocates for decent homes across England, Justin Welby is expected to call for an end to “short-termism” in housing policy.
A new vision for England’s housing system that promotes long-term planning and its execution is outlined in the Homes for All report.
The paper claims that because the phrase “England faces a housing crisis” has been overused, it has “lost its power to shock”.
It urges the government to pass legislation creating an impartial housing authority, akin to the Climate Change Committee that makes recommendations on emission objectives and updates the legislature on any reductions in greenhouse gas emissions.
According to the report, the housing body would examine and offer the technical know-how required to change housing and housing policy in England.
