For his performances as King Theoden in the Lord of the Rings trilogy and as Captain Edward Smith in the 1997 Oscar-winning movie Titanic, he received numerous honors.
Hill received a diploma in theater in 1970 after graduating from Blackley, Manchester, where she was born in 1944.
He has a son with fellow actress Marianna Hill, with whom he was married. According to his agent Lou Coulson, he passed away early on Sunday morning.
