According to reports, the German Left Party has suggested capping the price of kebabs at €4.90 (£4.20) for adults and €2.50 (£2.10) for children using state funding.
One of Germany’s de facto national foods, the meaty flatbread lunch, currently costs an average of €7.9 (£6.80), a price that the Left Party claims is rising in line with inflation.
In German politics, the price of kebabs has become a running joke. Chancellor Olaf Scholz once said that people always approach him about the expense of kebabs.
Left Party executive committee member Kathi Gebel stated to BILD, “When young people demand: Olaf, make the kebab,”.
