A new dispute broke out as one landlord association issued a warning about a shortage in the private sector on the eve of the contentious Renters Reform Bill’s second reading in the House of Lords.
According to a National Residential Landlords Association (NRLA) analysis of government data, 45% of individuals in need of support for homelessness prevention in the final half of 2023 stated that the reason was because the property owner intended to sell.
Landlords intending to re-let the property accounted for the second most frequent cause, which was more than twice as much.
Separately, Rightmove research revealed that in order to restore the supply of rental properties to pre-pandemic levels, 50,000 units must be rented.
