Between 2001 and 2006, the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) initiated around 100 charges against Post Office employees.
It is believed that they typically involved the cashing in of stolen order books.
Between 1999 and 2015, the Post Office erroneously punished hundreds of sub-postmasters using evidence from the flawed Horizon accounting system.
Sir Robert Neill KC, Chair of the Justice Select Committee, stated that as a result, DWP convictions “need to be looked at”.
I wasn’t aware that, for example, there could have been material in the DWP case as a result of joint investigations, implying a disclosure failure,” he continued.
News investigation, however, revealed that information was shared between Post Office inquiry teams and the DWP.
