GUJRANWALA: Khurram Dastgir Khan, a senior leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N), stated on Tuesday that while seat adjustments with the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP) would be conceivable, their “big agenda” was still for discussion.
Regarding the IPP’s alleged demand for numerous constituencies, including some significant ones, Dastgir stated that the party led by Jahangir Tareen had made a massive demand, which prevented serious negotiations from happening.
The PML-N leader stated, “The party will discuss where they have to give them [IPP] space after making final decision on tickets,” following a deadlock in negotiations between the two parties due to the Shehbaz Sharif-led party’s reluctance to form an alliance on significant numbers of its seats.
Citing sources the IPP had contacted, The News had stated seeking modifications on 26 National Assembly seats and 50 Provincial Assembly seats, while the negotiations between the two main parties proceed without producing any significant progress.
According to the sources, the PML-N was not prepared for an alliance on the seats that its top leaders would be running for. They had also stated that the party was unwilling to create an alliance for a large number of additional seats.
According to Dastgir, Punjab is not under any pressure to make room for the IPP. He insisted that they would like to bring other people along as well.
“We will adjust seats in order to create political stability in the upcoming assemblies,” he continued.
PML-N has concerns regarding delimitations Dastgir stated in reference to the ECP’s delimitations.
