Doctors are shocked by how well 5-month-old Harlym Carter, who was born without eyes and is having a hemispherectomy, is doing.

Due to her uncommon ailment, anophthalmia, which causes a newborn to be born without one or both eyes, Harlym faces particular difficulties from birth, yet they haven’t stopped her advancement.

Allyanna Carter, Harlym’s mother, remembers the surprising turn of events. The pregnancy started out quite normal, with Harlym looking “perfectly healthy” during the 20-week check. The family did not learn about Harlym’s obstacles until after her delivery on July 22nd, though.

“I was informed that she would never be able to speak or walk, but despite not being able to utilize her right side of her body, she is almost crawling. Carter exclaimed, “She’s the cutest baby ever—and so talkative!” confounding expectations that had been set previously.

Harlym has a strong attitude even though she was born without eyes and has had other medical problems, such as galactosemia and choanal atresia. Her left side of the brain was found to be undeveloped by the doctors, which caused difficulties and ultimately resulted in a hemispherectomy in August. Harlym is still making progress even though the procedure left her with a chronic disability on her right side.

Carter says, reflecting on the emotional trip, “I was devastated. I was contemplating how she would never be regarded as ordinary.” But love won out as Carter gave Harlym a resolute embrace.
