Despite the heirs’ objections, a French court decided to proceed with the auction, their attorney announced on Thursday.
The trophy was given to the late Maradona, who was voted the 1986 World Cup’s greatest player.
However, it vanished for many years and reappeared only recently.
The football player’s heirs filed an urgent lawsuit in an attempt to halt the trophy’s auction.
According to their attorney, Gilles Moreu, the court’s decision “was not favourable to the heirs of Diego Maradona.”.
The trophy is scheduled to be auctioned off at the Aguttes auction.
The trophy, according to Maradona’s heirs, was stolen, and the present owner is not allowed to sell it.
The trophy, according to the auction company, did, however, reappear in 2016 along with other objects that were purchased from a private collection in Paris.
Mr. Benchaieb, the trophy’s present owner, was said to be “acting in good faith” by the court, according to Mr. Moreu.
Mr. Benchaieb asserted that he was unaware the trophy had been stolen when he purchased it years prior.
At a ceremony held in 1986 at the Lido Cabaret on Paris’s renowned Champs-Elysees, Maradona was presented with the award. After that, it vanished.
Some claim it was sold to settle debts or lost during a poker game.
