Sir John Hall, the former owner of United, joined Reform UK leader Nigel Farage at an election event in Durham on Thursday to express his support for the party.
Mr. Farage disclosed that the miner’s son provided partial funding for Theresa May’s 2017 election campaign, but he did not reveal the precise amount of the money made to Reform UK.
Sir John was commended “for coming out so publicly for us” and described as a “major success story, a role model” by the speaker.
The 91-year-old assisted in funding Mrs. May’s 2017 emergency general election and has given the Conservative Party more than £500,000.
He donated £25,000 to the Conservative Party in May 2017.
In February 2018, he voiced his displeasure with Mrs. May’s lack of domestic initiatives and her “indecisiveness” over Brexit.
Sir John’s company constructed the MetroCentre shopping mall in Gateshead during the 1980s.
He purchased Woolsington Hall, northwest , and has built a number of facilities there, including a five-star hotel and a golf course in addition to a football academy.
In addition, Sir John owns Wynyard Park, a sprawling 19th-century country estate in County Durham that he rebuilt for £4 million and currently uses as a venue for special events. He has built 800 other residences.
