The windmill, a symbol of the nearby Montmartre neighborhood, was restored with a special ceremony that included can-can dancing on the outside plaza.
The director of the cabaret said that a technical issue caused the enormous sails of the mill and a portion of the LED sign to fall to the floor following a performance in April.
In order to get the damage fixed before the Olympic torch relay passes through the area on July 15, the cabaret worked quickly.
At the Moulin Rouge’s debut on October 6, 1889, the windmill was first lit up. The can-can dance’s contemporary incarnation is mostly credited to the cabaret.
This year marks the cabaret’s 135th anniversary. It is a well-liked vacation spot that was the focus of a 2001 musical film starring Nicole Kidman and directed by Baz Luhrmann.
The movie was also made into a musical, which made its Broadway debut in 2019 and made its West End debut in 2022.
Annual attendance at the cabaret exceeds 600,000.
