According to official media, Iran’s parliament on Wednesday endorsed a 20-year strategic alliance between Tehran and Moscow. The deal signifies a strengthening of bilateral relations, including increased defense cooperation.
The strategic partnership agreement was signed on January 17 by Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
In April, the agreement was approved by the Russian legislature. The agreement states that both nations will cooperate against common military threats, advance their military-technical cooperation, and participate in joint exercises, even if it lacks a mutual defense clause.
Iran and Russia have strengthened their military connections since the 2022 start of the conflict in Ukraine, with Western nations charging Iran of supplying missiles.
