In addition to accepting higher fees to help offset the anticipated loss of the United States, the top donor, the World Health Organization (WHO) said that China, Qatar, Switzerland, and other countries contributed more than $170 million for the organization during its assembly on Tuesday, according to Reuters.
“These funds will help us to preserve and extend our life-saving work in a challenging climate for global health,” said WHO Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus in a statement about additional donations for 2025–2028.
According to a WHO list, the Novo Nordisk Foundation and ELMA Philanthropies made additional contributions, while host Switzerland contributed $40 million, Sweden contributed $13.5 million, Angola contributed $8 million, and Qatar contributed $6 million.
China had already pledged $500 million, but that was not included.
