In a letter to cabinet secretary Simon Case on Wednesday, the former Conservative MP, who was defeated in the general election two weeks ago, claimed that officials had violated the civil service code by making “repeated references personally to me and actions undertaken by my government in the context of a political attack.”
The documents stated that the King’s Speech mini-budget was “a lesson in how not to approach fiscal policy” and that steps were being taken to enhance the Office for Budget Responsibility’s (OBR) position in order to “guarantee that the blunders of Liz Truss’s.
The fiscal event references were “untrue,” according to Ms. Truss, and they had no place in a document prepared by civil servants. The fiscal event caused market turbulence after her chancellor, Kwasi Kwarteng, announced a wave of unfunded spending cuts.
Additionally, she demanded that the references be taken down, “appropriate admonishment for those responsible,” and that an investigation be conducted into how they were permitted to be posted.
