Athletes, Christian organizations, foreign dignitaries, and American politicians all criticized the opening ceremony for inaccurately portraying one of Christianity’s most hallowed moments.
A portion of the event seems to be modeled after Leonardo da Vinci’s renowned painting of The Last Supper. A transsexual model, drag queens, and a nude singer dressed like the Greek deity Dionysus comprised the performing group.
Spokesman for Paris 2024 Anne Descamps discussed it on Sunday.
It is obvious that disrespecting any religious organization was never the goal. According to Descamps, the inaugural ceremony aimed to promote communal tolerance.
We think this goal was accomplished. We sincerely apologize if any offense was caused.
We are aware that the French LGBTQ community is not nearly as represented as the ceremony suggested. Regarding transgender persons, society still has a long way to go. James Leperlier, president of Inter-LGBT, stated, “It’s awful that they have to go through a trial in order to legally change their identity.”
You wouldn’t believe it to be normal if you watched the opening ceremony last night, but it isn’t. France made an effort to portray what ought to be rather than what is.
