BARCELONA: Barcelona defeated local rivals Espanyol 2-0 on Thursday to win their 28th La Liga title. With two games remaining, they have an unbeatable seven-point lead over Real Madrid in second place.
Real needed to win their next three games and hope the leaders didn’t pick up more than one point in a single game after Sunday’s 4-3 loss to Barcelona in order to keep their mathematical hopes of winning the championship alive.
But in the 53rd minute, Lamine Yamal curled a fantastic goal into the net, ending their fragile hopes of winning the title. Five minutes into stoppage time, Fermin Lopez sealed the triumph with a ball from within the box, helped by Yamal.
