On Monday, Laura Collett riding London 52, Tom McEwen and his horse JL Dublin, and Ros Canter on Lordships Graffalo defeated the opposition from France to secure the top eventing spot.
Along with Oliver Townend, McEwen and Collett were members of the team who won gold in the same event in Tokyo 2020.
Subsequently on Monday, Tom Pidcock won the men’s mountain bike event, retaining the championship he took home in Tokyo, and pulling off a stunning comeback to take a second gold.
After his front tire burst, the 24-year-old British rider lost nine positions and 36 seconds to the lead Frenchman Victor Koretzky. However, he performed a masterful comeback to retake the lead.
Koretzky regained the lead for a little while in the last lap, but Pidcock made a bold pass in the closing seconds and then sprinted to the finish first.
Only hours after winning gold, Collett received a bronze medal in the solo eventing category on Lordships Graffalo.
Other Team GB competitors made it to the podium on Monday. Adam Burgess placed second in the men’s canoe single, and divers Tom Daley and Noah Williams won silver in the men’s synchronized 10 m.
