Detectives from Essex County had questioned Nicholas Rossi, who was extradited from Scotland to Utah in January, over an alleged incident that occurred in Chelmsford in 2017.
The 36-year-old was the target of a global manhunt after it was claimed by US authorities that he had sexually assaulted a lady in 2008, after which he organized his own memorial service and fled to the UK.
Two years ago, the historic serious sex attack claim in Chelmsford was reported to Essex detectives.
Following his arrest, Rossi was questioned by police, held in prison, and released on bond while more research was conducted.
According to News has learnt, English prosecutors have concluded that there is “no realistic prospect of a conviction”.
“As part of our investigation, we remained in consistent dialogue with the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) and its specialist international liaison team,” an Essex Police spokesperson stated.
Our inquiry was concluded, and we sent our findings. The news informed us in writing that they had decided not to pursue any additional charges because they did not believe there would be a conviction.
