The majority of opposition parties have urged their followers to march against Jaroslaw Kaczynski’s Law and Justice (PiS), a nationalist party. Former President Lech Walesa and Prime Minister Donald Tusk are among those in attendance. The event has been denounced by the PiS as a “march of hate.”. Estimates from the Warsaw mayor’s office put the attendance at the event, which took place on the 34th anniversary of Poland’s first largely free elections, at half a million. Many came from all across the nation to participate, and parallel protests have been staged in other Polish cities, such as Krakow. Protests were sparked by a wide range of topics, such as anger about living expenses, inflation, and LGBT and women’s rights.
