According to data on capacity payments given to power plants operating on imported fuel during the last ten years, more than Rs1200 billion was paid to 26 such power plants across the nation between 2015 and 2024.
Even during times when the factories were closed or had problems, the funds kept coming in.
These payments were made to power plants using imported gas and furnace oil, according to Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) documentation.
In particular, 15 plants use furnace oil, whereas 11 power plants built under the 1994 and 2002 electricity programs use imported gas.
