In her videolink appearance from HMP Peterborough, childminder Lucy Connolly acknowledged writing the post disparaging asylum seekers at Northampton Crown Court. This came after her initial arrest in the first half of August and her subsequent re-arrest.
She wrote on her X account, “Mass deportation now, set fire to all the f*g hotels full of the bastards for all I care… “before deleting it. I don’t care if that makes me racist.”
On the day of the knife incident in Southport, Merseyside, where a group of kids attending a dance lesson with a Taylor Swift theme were attacked, Connolly posted the post.
Online rumors propagating that the assailant was a Muslim seeking asylum sparked protests around the United Kingdom.
After acting on “false and malicious” information, Connolly, a resident of Northampton, eventually apologized and seems to have deactivated her X account.
Raymond Connolly is a Conservative councillor from West Northamptonshire, and she is his wife.
Saying he was “relieved” it had ended since it had been “traumatic” for his wife and three kids, he spoke outside the court.
