A decision has been made by the federal government to modify the 1992 Indus River System Authority Act.
The potential modification has been rejected by the Sindh government. Any changes to the Irsa Act, according to sources, will face opposition, and the Sindh Assembly will be presented with an adjournment motion on the subject.
It is resolved that every member of the PPP will be against any modification to the Irsa Act.
According to sources, the federation seeks to keep its powers while repealing the Irsa Water Act of 1991 (Water accord).
The provinces signed the “appointment of water of the Indus River system between the provinces” water deal on March 16, 1991, and the Council of Common Interests ratified it on March 21 of that same year.
