Defense Minister Khawaja Asif questioned the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party’s democratic credentials and denounced the party for its political philosophy in a sharply worded speech to the National Assembly. He also slammed the PTI for its recent actions and rhetoric.
“Which constitution states that a political person will only talk to the army?” he asked, challenging the reliance on military involvement in political concerns.
With reference to current events, Asif opened by saying, “There was a detailed discussion on yesterday’s events.” He questioned the idea that Pakistan’s survival is dependent on a single person, posing the question, “Can the existence of Pakistan be defined by the existence of a person?”
Along with criticizing the provocative comments, Asif said, “What will be the next step in the alleged mobilization of Pashtun forces to attack Punjab?”
