The delay in the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam’s (JUI-F) decision to join the coalition administration is causing the federal government to miss deadlines for significant legislation.
The administration needs the JUI-F’s backing in parliament to get the required number of votes for a constitutional revision, but since JUI-F leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman hasn’t made a final decision, there hasn’t been any significant progress.
Sources claim that after the numbers game is completed, the government is keen to present a constitutional change measure to the Senate, but the unresolved JUI-F issue forced them to postpone their plans for Tuesday. The administration decided to postpone after realizing that, in the absence of the JUI-F’s support, they would lose the numbers game.
