Emergency personnel in the town of Toropets, according to Igor Rudenya, were attempting to “localize” the fire sparked by falling drone wreckage. He omitted to mention if there were any victims.
In the meantime, unconfirmed video appears to show a large explosion in the town. Social media users shared video footage of explosions and smoke filling up a wide swath of the sky.
According to Ukrainian officials cited by the news agencies , an ammo depot had been hit.
Andriy Kovalenko, the director of the Ukrainian Center for Countering Disinformation, stated on Telegram that in addition to its own weapons, such as Grad rockets.
The news has not independently verified any of these statements.
Toropets is located roughly 470 km north of the Ukrainian border and 380 km (236 miles) northwest of Moscow, the capital of Russia.
Authorities in Toropets reported on Wednesday morning that busses were ready for the evacuation.
They added that everything were “under control” in the community of roughly 13,000 people.
The number of people being evacuated was not disclosed by the authorities.
Meanwhile, regional kindergartens and schools would be closed on Wednesday, according to reports from Russia’s official media.
