Pictures of the damaged devices revealed a layout and stickers that matched the Taiwan-based manufacturer Gold Apollo’s AR-924 pager model.
Hsu Ching-Kuang, the creator of the company, however, claimed that the gadgets were actually manufactured in Budapest under license by BAC Consulting, a company that used the Gold Apollo name.
The address of BAC is a tiny guarded building in Budapest.
“Apollo Gold Corporation has established a long-term private label authorization and regional agency cooperation with BAC,” Gold Apollo said in a statement provided to News in Taiwan.
As per the terms of the agreement, we grant BAC permission to use our brand trademark for production sales in particular areas, but BAC is solely responsible for the product design and manufacturing.
When asked about the pagers and explosions, Cristiana Barsony-Arcidiacono, CEO of BAC Consulting, said to News: “I don’t make the pagers.” All I am is the middleman. I believe you made a mistake.”
People who described themselves as plain-clothes officers and requested not to be videotaped arrived at the BAC Consulting premises this morning, according to a News correspondent in Budapest.
