ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) was deemed “a political party” and qualified for the reserved seats quota in a comprehensive ruling released by the Supreme Court of Pakistan on Monday in the case involving restricted seats.
The 70-page decision, written by Justice Mansoor Ali Shah, was sent to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) a few days after Speaker of the National Assembly Ayaz Sadiq claimed in a letter that the short order issued by the top court on July 12 was “incapable of implementation” un light of the Election Act 2017 modifications.
The letter made reference to the majority ruling of the Supreme Court, which was 8 to 5, and which cleared the path for the party formed by Imran Khan to return to power in the assembly after being eliminated from the polls on February 8.
