who is still best recognized for her role as Sansa Stark on Game of Thrones—plays real-life jewel thief Joan Hannington from the 1980s. After leaving a disastrous marriage as a single mother, Hannington turned to a life of crime, beginning with what would later become a signature move: swallowing jewels. Painful, but very profitable. The program is bursting with color and style from the 1980s as Joan enters and exits jewelry stores under different disguises and becomes involved in London’s criminal underworld. Joan will debut in the US on The CW on October 2 and in the UK on ITV and ITVX on September 29.
Humor is a specialty of Armando Iannucci, the man behind the beloved satires Veep and The Thick of It. The filmmaker of movies like Skyfall and 1917, Sam Mendes, is not.
