Following heated deliberations at the UN on Wednesday, the US, France, and a number of allies expressed support for a ceasefire in Gaza and urged for an immediate 21-day truce across the Israel-Lebanon border.
According to a senior Biden administration official, the ceasefire would extend to the “Blue Line,” or the border between Israel and Lebanon, and would enable talks towards a possible diplomatic settlement of the dispute.
The White House released a joint statement from the nations stating, “We call on all parties, including the governments of Israel and Lebanon, to endorse the temporary ceasefire immediately.”
Australia, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and the European Union were among the allies who signed the joint declaration.
