LOS GATOS, California: There is no Oscar or Emmy for an app that makes the best recommendations for what to watch next, nor is there a red carpet for those who ensure that Netflix offers a pleasant user experience.
However, when those features operate as intended, Netflix has an advantage over rival streaming services. The executive in charge of directing many of the operations that make Netflix function, such as adding new features like live events, advertisements, and mobile games, is Eunice Kim, the Chief Product Officer.
Her team makes sure that the viewing experience is seamless by analyzing user behavior on Netflix to identify which movies and series could pique viewers’ interest next. She is therefore one of the most significant Netflix executives you’ve never ever hear about it.
Being responsible for ensuring Netflix is a flawless product—one of the most overlooked aspects of the streaming wars—comes with the job.
Kim remarked, “We make it look easy, but it’s not really that easy underneath.” “If we’re doing our jobs right, the product should be helping people and we shouldn’t be talking about it too much.”
Kim joined Netflix in early 2021 and was promoted to the position in October. She was previously employed by Google Play and YouTube in product management capacities. She was raised in Fremont, California, where her mother soldered motherboards and her father started a startup out of their garage. She likes to garden in her spare time, away from screens.
In an interview at Netflix’s Los Gatos headquarters, she talked with The Times. The duration and clarity of this conversation have been adjusted.
