In an effort to increase Samoa’s chances of making it to the Twenty20 World Cup the following year, former New Zealand captain Ross Taylor is coming out of retirement to play for his mother’s birthplace.
Before his international career ended in April 2022, the 41-year-old scored over 18,000 runs in 450 games for New Zealand. He expressed his excitement on Friday at being able to contribute to the game again.
Because of his mother’s Samoan ancestry, Taylor is eligible to play for a second national team when the three-year cooling-off period has passed since his previous New Zealand match.
“I’m pleased to declare that I will be wearing the blue and playing cricket for Samoa.
