DUBAI: In a historic first, a Muslim officer from Bangladesh named Brigadier General Shariful M. Khan was named Director of Staff for the Pentagon’s Golden Dome initiative, a top-secret, advanced missile defense program that is sometimes referred to as America’s Iron Dome.
In order to design and implement next-generation missile defense systems, Brig Gen Khan will be in charge of strategy, regulations, and collaborations with businesses, academic institutions, national labs, and governmental organizations.
The appointment of Brig. Gen. Khan marks a significant turning point for diversity in US defense, demonstrating that a Muslim officer from Bangladesh is now in charge of one of the country’s most important missile defense initiatives — protecting the nation and its allies.
