WASHINGTON: On Saturday, thousands of people in Washington, DC, marched to demand that US President Donald Trump stop using National Guard troops to patrol the streets of the nation’s capital.
Supporters of Palestine and undocumented immigrants were among the protesters at the “We Are All DC” march. They carried posters with the words “Free DC,” “Trump must go now,” and “Resist Tyranny” and chanted anti-Trump slogans.
“I’m here to protest the occupation of DC,” Alex Laufer told reporters. “We’re opposing the authoritarian regime, and we need to get the federal police and the National Guard off our streets.”
Trump sent the military to the city last month to “re-establish law, order, and public safety,” claiming that crime was a plague.
