More than 400 international activists, including Swedish environmentalist Greta Thunberg and Pakistani Senator Mushtaq, were detained when the Israeli Navy intercepted the Global Solidarity Flotilla that was delivering humanitarian relief to Gaza.
Critics have strongly condemned the action worldwide, claiming it is an act of “piracy” and a breach of international law.
In international waters, the Israeli Navy intercepts a flotilla.
About 70 nautical miles off the coast of Gaza, the flotilla—which consisted of about 40 civilian vessels transporting food and medicine—was halted. Israeli troops reportedly threw filthy water at passengers when they boarded the ships at night while brandishing water cannons. Live-streaming cameras showed activists sitting in life vests with their hands up, surrounded by armed soldiers wearing night vision goggles.
