Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari has hailed the Constitution as “complete” following the passage of the 27th Constitutional Amendment. The announcement came after the Senate approved the amendment, aimed at reforming military and judicial structures.
Speaking at the launch of the Sindh Wheat Growers Support Programme 2025 in Larkana, Bilawal emphasized the PPP’s commitment to equal provincial representation in the Federal Constitutional Court (FCC), similar to the Senate. “There will be no compromise: Balochistan, Sindh, Punjab, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will have equal representation in the Constitutional Court,” he stated.
The amendment, presented by Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar, passed the Senate with 64 votes. Support also came from the Awami National Party (ANP), PTI-backed Senator Saifullah Abro, and JUI-F’s Ahmed Khan.
Key provisions include the creation of a Chief of Defence Forces position to lead the armed forces and the establishment of the FCC, which will handle constitutional petitions, reducing some powers of the Supreme Court. Tarar highlighted that the amendment aims to streamline the judicial process, addressing the growing backlog of constitutional cases, while also clarifying the administrative structure of the armed forces under Article 243.
