At least 13 people were killed and several others injured after an Israeli airstrike hit the southern Lebanese city of Sidon, according to the Lebanese Health Ministry.
The Israeli military said the strike targeted a compound within the Ain al-Hilweh Palestinian refugee camp, claiming it was used by Hamas militants to plan attacks against Israel.
Hamas strongly rejected these claims, calling the military’s statement “fabricated” and asserting that the strike hit a public sports field used by civilians, with no military presence in the camp.
Israel maintains several positions within southern Lebanon and occasionally carries out airstrikes, often citing threats from Iran-backed Hezbollah or Hamas members. Last year, Israel and Hezbollah agreed to a ceasefire, requiring the militant group to avoid weapons in the south and Israeli forces to withdraw completely.
