The Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) senator Sania Nishtar has formally resigned from her seat in Parliament’s upper house. The Senate Secretariat received the resignation, which takes effect right away.
Nishtar, who was the Prime Minister’s special assistant under the PTI administration, is departing to accept a position with a Geneva-based international organization.
Nishtar is a licensed doctor who was elected as a senator for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the 2021 Senate elections. In 2024, he was named CEO of Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance.
She previously chaired the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) and the Ehsaas Program, and she was the Special Assistant on Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety with the rank of federal minister.
