Iran Offers Young Protesters 3 Days for Leniency
Iranian authorities are giving young people who joined recent protests “unwittingly” three days to turn themselves in for lighter punishment.
National police chief Ahmad-Reza Radan said on state TV that those “deceived” into participating in the riots would be treated with leniency. “Young people who became unwittingly involved in the riots are considered deceived individuals, not enemy soldiers,” he said.
State TV Hacked
On Sunday, Iranian state TV broadcasts were briefly interrupted by clips of exiled Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi. He urged security forces not to target citizens and highlighted personnel who had laid down their weapons.
Calls for International Intervention
Pahlavi has also called for outside action. In an interview with CBS News, he said, “The best way to ensure fewer people are killed in Iran is to intervene sooner, so this regime finally collapses and ends the problems we face.”
