Ireland’s foreign minister stated on Thursday that the country plans to join South Africa’s complaint against Israel at the International Court of Justice before the year is out.
As the Irish parliament approved a non-binding resolution stating that “genocide is being perpetrated before our eyes by Israel in Gaza,” Michael Martin made these remarks.
In December, South Africa filed a petition before the International Court of Justice (ICJ), claiming that the war in Gaza violated the 1948 United Nations Genocide Convention. Israel has vehemently refuted this claim.
A number of countries, including Spain, Bolivia, Colombia, Mexico, Turkey, Chile, and Libya, have contributed to the proceedings.
Once South Africa produced a document substantiating their claims, which it did on Monday, Ireland promised to submit a reply to the court.
