ISLAMABAD: Under the net metering system for power provided to the national grid, the federal government is considering drastically reducing the rooftop solar panel cost from the present rate of around Rs21 per unit to Rs7.5-11 per unit.
According to The News, one unit of grid electricity is currently equal to two units produced by roof solar panels.
Given the sharp drop in solar panel prices, the buyback tariff from solar consumers may be reduced to Rs7.5–11 per unit. In exchange, customers who install solar panels on their roofs would receive electricity from the national grid at a rate of Rs 60 per unit during peak or nighttime hours.
