According to Julius Malema, a fiery opposition politician from South Africa, his visa to attend a conference in the UK on May 10 has been denied.
Malema characterized the UK’s decision as a “attempt to silence a dissenting political perspective” and claimed that there was no “substantial justification” for it.
Malema’s deputy received a leaked letter from Antony Phillipson, the UK High Commissioner to South Africa, stating that the Home Office had failed to approve his visa application in time for his trip.
Malema, the leader of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) party, is an outspoken opponent of “Western imperialism” and believes that white-owned land in South Africa should be nationalized.
