TEHRAN: Tehran reaffirmed its “right” to enrich uranium on Saturday, despite growing Western concerns that Iran may be pursuing nuclear weapons and following the suspension of negotiations with the United States.
“Iran has every right to possess the full nuclear fuel cycle,” wrote Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on X, referring to Tehran’s lengthy membership in the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).
“A number of NPT members enrich uranium while completely opposing nuclear weapons,” Araghchi stated.
Signatory states to the NPT are required to disclose their nuclear arsenals and place them under the International Atomic Energy Agency’s (IAEA), the UN’s nuclear watchdog.
