The pricing for power produced by rooftop solar panels is being seriously reduced by the Pakistani government, which plans to get it down to between Rs7.5 and Rs11 per unit.
With this modification, the existing rate of more than Rs21 per unit under the net metering scheme would be reduced.
At the moment, two solar-generated units are valued at one grid power unit. The conversion would shift to six solar-generated units equal to one grid unit if the revised tariffs are put into effect.
According to a senior Energy Ministry official, this change attempts to address the rising problem of excessive capacity costs associated with solar energy usage.
