As “World of Warcraft” (WoW) celebrates its twentieth anniversary, the massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) has shown to be incredibly resilient due to its loyal player base and ongoing development.
With millions of players worldwide and a dynamic evolution with the shifting gaming landscape, World of Warcraft has become a cultural phenomenon since its 2004 launch.
Speaking at the Gamescom trade fair in Germany, the game’s director, Ion Hazzikostas, discussed the game’s exceptional lifespan and the difficulty of preserving its legacy. “It is inspiring to be able to work on this rare game that has touched so many lives and to also feel the burden of carrying that forward,” Hazzikostas explained.
