Midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur is a “outstanding person” who made a “mistake” by using a racial slur against teammate Son Heung-min, according to Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou.
The Football Association earlier this week banned the 27-year-old Uruguayan international for seven games for remarks he made during a June appearance on Uruguayan television.
Spurs have filed an appeal against the ban, claiming that while they accept the guilty verdict, they disagree with the harshness of the penalty.
Postecoglou told Sky Sports, externally, “I completely support the club’s decision to appeal the severity of the ban.”
“I talked to him before to the FA’s ruling, and as I mentioned, he acknowledges his error and is willing to absorb any punishment that is imposed on him.
