A growing pattern of deportations to India was signaled in October when US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (Ice) sent a chartered jet transporting Indian nationals back home.
This was not your regular flight; it was one of several large-scale “removal flights” that were conducted this year, usually with over 100 passengers. Groups of Indian migrants who “did not establish a legal basis to remain in the US” were returning on the aircraft.
The most recent aircraft carrying adult men and women was headed to Punjab, which is near the origins of many deportees, according to US officials. There was no detailed breakdown of hometowns.
