After being formally unveiled at a launch event last week, Aeternitas Tower, another enormous building, is set to add to Dubai’s skyline. Measuring an astounding 450 meters (1,476 feet) in height, it will be the highest residential clock tower in the world.
At that height, CNN reports, it will be just 22 meters (72 feet) shy of the world’s tallest residential skyscraper, the Central Park Tower in New York City, and will surpass Big Ben in London by a factor of more than four.
Aeternitas Tower, being built by London Gate, a Dubai-based real estate developer, and Franck Muller, a Swiss luxury watch manufacturer, is anticipated to be the second-tallest clock tower in the world, behind the Makkah Clock Royal Tower in Mecca.
When London Gate purchased the plot of land in Dubai Marina, which already had the foundations of an unfinished 106-story project, it realized that the tower’s enormous scale demanded a magnificent façade, according to Tom Hill, the company’s coordinator for public relations.
The enormous clock face will be 40 meters (131 feet) in height and 30 meters (98 feet) in breadth. According to Hill, “We believe the clock will be seen from six kilometers away because of the sheer height of the building.”
According to Hill, “We wanted to do something unique that hasn’t been done in Dubai before.”
