Despite not being selected in the top three in the 2024 WNBA Draft, Chicago Sky rookie Angel Reese has enjoyed the highest level of popularity of any rookie in the league at this time.
A national championship victory in 2022 and a developing rivalry with Caitlin Clark catapulted Reese to stardom at LSU. In addition to bringing her rich name, image, and likeness deals, her fame also attracted hostility and ridicule.
That became clear on Saturday when she seemed to support her teammate Chennedy Carter after Clark was hip-checked. Following his failure to appear in postgame media, Reese was fined $1,000.
Reese spoke with reporters on Monday about the attention that her squad and she are receiving. She promised to accept both the good and the terrible.
“It all started from the national championship game,” Reese stated.I’ve been coping with this for the past two years. Granted, unfavorable remarks have undoubtedly been made about me, but I honestly accept that given the state of women’s basketball. Someone you would never think would be talking about women’s basketball is talking about it.
