According to our research, males are drawn to the possibility of financial gain more easily. Female investors "appear more likely to connect investing with real-life goals, from building emergency savings to looking after children," according to Jemma Slingo, pensions and investment specialist at Fidelity International. It's crucial to keep in mind that, due to the ongoing gender pay discrepancy, women in the UK often have less money to invest than men. Investing "needs to do a better job of making investing feel accessible, relevant, and connected to people's own goals and values," according to Macdonald.Women's long-term financial stability and the UK economy would both benefit from addressing this.

US Hotels Fear Weak World Cup Tourism as Bookings Fall Short Tourism expectations fail to match reality US hotels are worried the upcoming World Cup will not deliver the expected tourism boost. Many host cities are reporting lower-than-expected bookings, raising doubts about the event’s economic impact. A report from the American Hotel & Lodging Association shows demand is falling behind forecasts across most locations. The group represents more than 32,000 hotel properties and a large share of franchised hotels in the United States. Conflict between booking data and ticket sales The association says hotel demand does not match FIFA’s claim that over five million tickets have already been sold. It warns that the expected financial gains from the tournament could be lower than projected. Accusations over hotel room block bookings The report also criticizes FIFA for reserving large numbers of hotel rooms in advance. According to the association, this created artificial demand and pushed prices higher in early stages of booking. Later, FIFA cancelled a significant portion of those reservations. Hotel operators say this left gaps in availability and disrupted normal pricing patterns. FIFA has rejected these claims and does not agree with the criticism. Other factors behind weak demand Hotels say several issues are discouraging visitors. High ticket prices for matches are one concern. Expensive local transport and taxes are also adding pressure. Some operators also point to political tensions as another reason international travel interest has slowed. Economic outlook remains uncertain With lower bookings and mixed signals from ticket sales, the hospitality sector is now unsure about the World Cup’s overall economic benefit. Many hotels are preparing for weaker-than-expected revenue during the tournament period.

Wladimir Klitschko, the former partner of Hayden Panettiere, claims that his family is in “profound shock and grief.”

She met Brian Hickerson, her new lover, just before Nashville's production concluded. Later on, he became aggressive; according to Panettiere, he would smack her head against the wall and once battered her face so severely that she was unable to leave her home for weeks. In her 36 years, she faced more challenges than most, and she tried to deal with them by writing her book, which was released in May. She concluded by assuring readers that she had learned to "walk hand in hand with my triumphs and my tragedies, because they have made me who I am" and that she had come to terms with her past while maintaining optimism for the future.

Trump’s Greenland Envoy Faces Tough Challenge During Visit to Nuuk US Envoy Jeff Landry Tries to Build Relations in Greenland President Donald Trump’s special envoy to Greenland, Jeff Landry, has started his first official trip to the Arctic island with the goal of improving relations and strengthening communication with local leaders. Landry arrived in Nuuk, Greenland’s capital, on Monday and described his visit as a friendly mission focused on listening, learning, and creating stronger connections. He said President Trump encouraged him to visit Greenland and “make friends” with the people there. However, the visit has already created political tension. Many Greenlanders remain uncomfortable with the United States’ growing interest in the territory. Greenland’s Prime Minister, Jens-Frederik Nielsen, once again stated that Greenland is “not for sale” and stressed that Greenlanders have the right to decide their own future. Diplomatic Tensions Continue Between the US and Greenland Landry’s trip comes months after President Donald Trump sparked controversy by suggesting the United States could take control of Greenland by force if necessary. Greenland is a self governing territory connected to Denmark, and the comments created concern among both Danish and Greenlandic officials. Although Landry insists the visit is peaceful and focused on cooperation, some residents have reacted coldly because the trip was not officially invited by Greenland’s government. During the visit, Landry attended a business summit and participated in the opening ceremony of a new US consulate building in Nuuk. He also met local business leaders and political figures to discuss future cooperation. Greenland Rejects US Influence Over Health Plans An American doctor also joined Landry’s delegation. The doctor told local media he wanted to examine Greenland’s healthcare needs. This move quickly drew criticism from Greenland’s Health Minister, Anna Wangenheim, who called the situation “deeply problematic.” Earlier this year, Trump proposed sending a US hospital ship to Greenland, but Greenlandic leaders rejected the offer immediately. Greenland’s Foreign Minister, Mute Egede, warned that the United States still appears interested in gaining influence over the territory. He explained that Greenland has clear limits regarding its independence and sovereignty, while America’s position has also remained unchanged. Greenland Maintains Strong Position on Independence Despite the tension, Greenlandic officials described the meeting with Landry and US Ambassador Ken Howery as respectful and professional. Prime Minister Nielsen said discussions were held in a positive atmosphere, but he made it clear that Greenland would continue formal negotiations only through official diplomatic channels. The visit highlights the ongoing political struggle surrounding Greenland’s strategic importance in the Arctic region. While the United States wants stronger influence in the area, Greenland continues to defend its independence and right to self determination.

Police Fire Warning Shots as Crowds Gather at DR Congo Ebola Treatment Centre Tensions rose in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo after police fired warning shots into the air to break up angry crowds outside an Ebola treatment centre in Mongwalu. Families reportedly tried to take back the bodies of relatives who had died from the deadly virus. Health officials said the unrest continued for several hours on Sunday. The treatment centre had already faced an overnight attack earlier in the weekend when unknown people set fire to an isolation tent inside the hospital compound. Families Demand Bodies of Victims According to hospital officials, several people gathered outside the medical facility demanding that authorities release the bodies of two Ebola victims to their families for burial. One of the victims was reportedly a respected Catholic religious leader known in the local community. Doctors warned that Ebola victims remain highly infectious after death. Traditional funeral practices and direct contact with bodies can quickly spread the virus to more people. Medical teams and Red Cross workers have been carrying out controlled burials under police protection to reduce the risk of further infections. Fear and Distrust Fuel Public Anger Many communities affected by the outbreak continue to distrust health authorities. Some residents question the real cause of deaths and remain skeptical about Ebola treatment measures. Earlier in the week, another violent incident took place in Rwampara, a town located southeast of Mongwalu. Protesters burned isolation tents after officials stopped them from removing the body of a suspected Ebola victim for a traditional burial ceremony. Health experts believe misinformation and fear are making it harder to control the outbreak. Ebola Cases Continue to Rise Officials say the current Ebola outbreak has now recorded more than 900 suspected cases and around 220 suspected deaths. The situation has raised concern across Central and East Africa. Red Cross officials also confirmed that three volunteers involved in handling dead bodies died from suspected Ebola infections. Their deaths highlight the dangers faced by frontline workers during the outbreak. Meanwhile, health ministers from Uganda, South Sudan, and the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention recently agreed to strengthen cross border cooperation to help stop the virus from spreading into neighboring countries. Why Safe Burials Matter During Ebola Outbreaks Health experts say safe burials remain one of the most important steps in controlling Ebola outbreaks. The virus can survive in the bodies of victims after death, making funeral gatherings extremely risky. Authorities continue to urge families to cooperate with medical teams to protect communities and prevent more infections.

White House Gunman Had Previous Encounters With Secret Service Before Deadly Shooting A gunman who opened fire near the White House on Saturday had already faced multiple encounters with the Secret Service in the past year, according to court records. The suspect, identified as Nasire Best, allegedly fired several shots near a Secret Service checkpoint outside the White House. Officers quickly responded and shot the suspect during the incident. Authorities later confirmed that he died at a nearby hospital. A bystander also suffered injuries during the shooting, while no Secret Service officers were harmed. Officials said former President Donald Trump was inside the White House at the time but remained safe. Suspect Previously Tried To Access White House Court documents reveal that Best had earlier encounters with security officials in 2025. In June 2025, he reportedly blocked a White House entry lane and told Secret Service agents that he was Jesus Christ. During that incident, he also asked authorities to arrest him. Officers later sent him for a mental health evaluation. Just one month later, in July 2025, Best again attempted to enter a federally restricted area near the White House. Secret Service agents arrested him and charged him with unlawfully entering a protected property. Although the court released him after arraignment, he later failed to appear for a scheduled hearing in August 2025. That absence led the court to issue a no bond bench warrant for his arrest. Shooting Happened Near Secret Service Checkpoint Authorities said the shooting happened around 6:00 PM EST near the intersection of 17th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue NW, close to the Eisenhower Executive Office Building. Witnesses and reporters covering events outside the White House quickly ran for safety after hearing gunshots. Secret Service officers stationed at the checkpoint immediately returned fire after the suspect opened fire. Emergency teams rushed the suspect to the hospital, where doctors later pronounced him dead. Officials confirmed that security operations at the White House continued without disruption despite the shooting. Trump Praises Secret Service Response Following the incident, Trump thanked law enforcement officers and Secret Service agents for their rapid response. He praised their professionalism and said their quick action prevented further danger near the White House complex. The shooting also raised fresh concerns about security around the White House, especially after another gun related incident interrupted the White House Correspondents’ Dinner just one month earlier.

Attempt to Sell Rare Looking Statues Andrew Crowley, aged 46 from Longwell Green in Bristol, contacted Sotheby’s in London between November 2022 and July 2023. He asked them to value four items, including three Cycladic figures and one Anatolian stargazer statue. He said the pieces came from his grandfather’s inheritance. If authentic, the collection could have been worth around six hundred and eighty thousand pounds based on previous market sales. Fake Documents Raised Suspicion Crowley provided invoices that were meant to look like they were created in 1976. The papers were designed to support the history of the statues and strengthen their value. However, forensic specialists examined the documents and found that the printing method used was not available until 2001. This major mismatch revealed that the paperwork was not genuine. The documents also included old style design features such as antique dealer logos and even a nine pence stamp to make them look authentic. Court Findings and Judgment The court heard that Crowley believed the statues themselves were real and inherited. The main issue was the false paperwork used to support their origin and value. The judge stated that the dishonesty centered on the forged documents rather than the objects themselves. The valuation of the items was also reduced in court to three hundred and forty thousand pounds due to uncertainty about their authenticity. Sentencing Outcome Southwark Crown Court delivered a suspended prison sentence of two years. Crowley admitted to making false representations with the intention of gaining financially. He was also ordered to complete two hundred hours of unpaid community work and pay one thousand six hundred and thirty pounds in costs. About the Statues The Cycladic figures were around thirty centimetres tall and weighed about one kilogram each. These types of statues originate from the Cyclades islands in Greece and date back roughly three thousand years to the Bronze Age. The Anatolian stargazer figure is linked to ancient regions of modern day Turkey and is also considered highly collectible when genuine.

Major Waste Crime Sites Identified Authorities have published a new national watchlist highlighting illegal waste activity across England. The list includes 117 high priority sites linked to serious environmental concerns. Among them, 28 locations stand out as illegal waste super sites. Each of these contains more than 20,000 tonnes of dumped material. Officials estimate that around 700 illegal waste sites exist in total, but only the most urgent cases appear in the new list. The aim is to improve transparency and show where action is already underway. Largest Site Reaches 281,000 Tonnes The biggest site recorded is in Northwich, Cheshire. It holds about 281,000 tonnes of contaminated soil. This makes it the largest illegal waste site currently tracked. Investigations earlier this year had already identified similar large scale dumping issues in the same area. Other High Volume Locations Across England Several other major sites appear on the watchlist. These include locations in Wigan and Sheffield, which together hold close to 40,000 tonnes of waste. Additional large sites are spread across the country. Examples include Burnley, Retford, Scunthorpe, and St Austell, each holding between 50,000 and 99,000 tonnes. Other significant locations include areas in Suffolk, Essex, West Sussex, Cambridgeshire, and Worcestershire. One site in Pershore contains up to 199,000 tonnes of waste. Clean Up Work Already Underway Cleanup operations are already taking place at selected locations such as Hoads Wood in Kent and Kidlington in Oxfordshire. These sites were chosen because they pose serious environmental risks and affect nearby communities. Authorities confirm that cleanup decisions depend on strict risk based criteria set by the government. Funding Limits Slow Wider Action While some sites receive government funded cleanup support, many others remain without immediate action. Officials explain that limited funding restricts large scale removal work. As a result, only the most dangerous or high impact sites are prioritized. The Environment Agency continues to monitor all listed locations and respond where risks escalate.

UK Heatwave Brings Rising Temperatures and Health Alerts Across England and Wales Temperatures Climb Across the UK Several parts of the United Kingdom recorded warm weather as temperatures continued to rise. Coningsby and Kew Gardens both reached 28.3C. Wellesbourne recorded 28.2C, showing similar heat levels across central and southern regions. Cardiff reached 25.8C. This made it the warmest day of the year so far for Wales. Scotland and Northern Ireland stayed cooler. Temperatures there stayed between 17C and 22C due to cloud cover. Health Alerts Issued Across England The UK Health Security Agency issued amber heat health alerts for the Midlands, eastern England, and south east England. Officials raised these warnings from yellow earlier in the day. An amber alert signals possible pressure on health and social care services. It also highlights higher risk for children and people aged over 65. Other parts of England remain under a yellow alert. This means vulnerable people may still face health impacts from the heat. Heatwave Conditions Expected Meteorologists expect some areas to reach heatwave levels by midweek. A heatwave is declared when temperatures stay above a local threshold for three straight days. Conditions are expected to remain more moderate in northern regions due to cloud cover. Travel and Event Safety Advice Wembley Stadium has advised football fans attending English Football League play off finals to stay cautious. Organizers recommend light clothing, regular hydration, and protection from direct sun exposure.
