According to our research, males are drawn to the possibility of financial gain more easily. Female investors "appear more likely to connect investing with real-life goals, from building emergency savings to looking after children," according to Jemma Slingo, pensions and investment specialist at Fidelity International. It's crucial to keep in mind that, due to the ongoing gender pay discrepancy, women in the UK often have less money to invest than men. Investing "needs to do a better job of making investing feel accessible, relevant, and connected to people's own goals and values," according to Macdonald.Women's long-term financial stability and the UK economy would both benefit from addressing this.

US Hotels Fear Weak World Cup Tourism as Bookings Fall Short Tourism expectations fail to match reality US hotels are worried the upcoming World Cup will not deliver the expected tourism boost. Many host cities are reporting lower-than-expected bookings, raising doubts about the event’s economic impact. A report from the American Hotel & Lodging Association shows demand is falling behind forecasts across most locations. The group represents more than 32,000 hotel properties and a large share of franchised hotels in the United States. Conflict between booking data and ticket sales The association says hotel demand does not match FIFA’s claim that over five million tickets have already been sold. It warns that the expected financial gains from the tournament could be lower than projected. Accusations over hotel room block bookings The report also criticizes FIFA for reserving large numbers of hotel rooms in advance. According to the association, this created artificial demand and pushed prices higher in early stages of booking. Later, FIFA cancelled a significant portion of those reservations. Hotel operators say this left gaps in availability and disrupted normal pricing patterns. FIFA has rejected these claims and does not agree with the criticism. Other factors behind weak demand Hotels say several issues are discouraging visitors. High ticket prices for matches are one concern. Expensive local transport and taxes are also adding pressure. Some operators also point to political tensions as another reason international travel interest has slowed. Economic outlook remains uncertain With lower bookings and mixed signals from ticket sales, the hospitality sector is now unsure about the World Cup’s overall economic benefit. Many hotels are preparing for weaker-than-expected revenue during the tournament period.

Hayden Panettiere's death at 36 has prompted an emotional tribute from Wladimir Klitschko as officials continue to investigate the cause of her death.
Wladimir Klitschko, the former partner of Hayden Panettiere, claims that his family is in “profound shock and grief.”

She met Brian Hickerson, her new lover, just before Nashville's production concluded. Later on, he became aggressive; according to Panettiere, he would smack her head against the wall and once battered her face so severely that she was unable to leave her home for weeks. In her 36 years, she faced more challenges than most, and she tried to deal with them by writing her book, which was released in May. She concluded by assuring readers that she had learned to "walk hand in hand with my triumphs and my tragedies, because they have made me who I am" and that she had come to terms with her past while maintaining optimism for the future.

Italian Divers Die in Maldives Cave Diving Accident Incident Overview A tragic diving accident in the Maldives has claimed the lives of four Italian scuba divers. The group went missing during a deep cave dive in Vaavu Atoll. The cave reached around 60 metre depth and conditions inside were very difficult. Rescue teams later recovered the bodies from one section of the cave. Recovery Operation Specialist divers from Finland and the Maldives led the search operation. Finnish diver Sami Paakkarinen took part in the recovery mission and described the location as extremely challenging. He said all four bodies were found close together inside the cave. He also confirmed that the first diver was located shortly after the group went missing. A Maldivian rescue diver also died during the search effort. This has added further tragedy to an already difficult operation. Concerns About Diving Equipment Sami Paakkarinen raised concerns about the equipment used by the divers. He said the setup was not suitable for such a dangerous cave environment. He explained that experienced divers normally use a guide rope or diving reel to stay oriented in complex underwater spaces. He said his team would never enter similar conditions without this safety system. He suggested the lack of proper tools may have contributed to the accident. However, he stressed that investigators will decide the final cause. Investigation Outlook Officials believe human error could have played a role, but the exact cause is still under review. The bodies will be returned to Italy, and post mortem examinations will follow in the coming days. Authorities are continuing to examine how the dive was planned and why safety measures may have been insufficient for the conditions.

Russia Accuses Ukraine of Deadly Attack in Starobilsk Russian President Vladimir Putin has vowed to respond after accusing Ukraine of carrying out a deadly drone strike in the occupied town of Starobilsk in the Luhansk region. According to Russian officials, the overnight attack killed six people and injured 39 others. Authorities also said 15 people were still missing after the strike damaged a student dormitory building. Putin claimed the attack happened in three waves and involved 16 drones. Speaking at a reception in Moscow, he rejected suggestions that Russian air defence systems caused the destruction. He stated that no military or intelligence facilities were located near the building. Putin also instructed the Russian military to prepare plans for retaliation. Ukraine Says Russian Drone Unit Was Targeted Ukraine’s military later confirmed that its forces carried out a strike in Starobilsk. However, Ukrainian officials said the operation targeted the headquarters of Russia’s elite Rubicon drone military unit. Kyiv accused the Rubicon unit of launching repeated drone attacks against civilians and civilian infrastructure across Ukraine. Ukraine did not confirm whether the targeted building was the same dormitory mentioned by Russian authorities. The Ukrainian military stressed that its forces continue to follow international humanitarian law during military operations. Officials also said Ukrainian attacks focus only on military infrastructure and facilities connected to combat activities. Injured Student Shown on Russian Television Russian state television aired footage of an injured student identified as 19 year old Diana Shovkun. Reports said she suffered head injuries after a concrete slab collapsed during the strike. Russian media did not release images or videos of the people reportedly killed in the incident. The attack has increased tensions between Moscow and Kyiv as fighting continues across several occupied regions of Ukraine. Zelensky Claims Strike on Russian Security Headquarters Earlier this week, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky claimed Ukrainian forces also struck the headquarters of Russia’s Federal Security Service in the occupied Kherson region. Zelensky said around 100 Russian personnel were either killed or injured during that operation. Russia’s defence ministry has not officially commented on the claim. However, a pro Kremlin Telegram channel acknowledged casualties following what it described as a massive drone attack. War Continues as Both Sides Exchange Accusations Since the start of Russia’s full scale invasion in 2022, Ukraine has repeatedly accused Moscow of targeting civilians and damaging civilian infrastructure. Russia has consistently denied those accusations and claims its military operations focus only on strategic and military targets. The latest strike in Starobilsk adds to growing tensions as both countries continue drone and missile attacks during the ongoing war.

AI Fake Evidence Scandal Damages South Korean Actor Kim Soo-hyun’s Career Police Seek Arrest Warrant Against YouTuber South Korean police are pursuing an arrest warrant for YouTuber and media personality Kim Se-ui over allegations that he created fake evidence using artificial intelligence to defame actor Kim Soo-hyun. Investigators claim the YouTuber manipulated screenshots of text messages and used AI-generated audio to falsely suggest that Kim Soo-hyun had dated late actress Kim Sae-ron when she was underage. The controversy reportedly began shortly after Kim Sae-ron’s death last year. She died at the age of 24, and the incident sparked widespread public discussion across South Korea’s entertainment industry. Alleged AI Audio and Edited Messages According to authorities, Kim Se-ui uploaded a voice recording online that appeared to feature Kim Sae-ron claiming she had been in a relationship with Kim Soo-hyun since middle school. Police now believe the recording was created using AI technology. They also allege that screenshots of private messages were altered to make it appear as though the actress had exchanged texts with the actor. Investigators say the false claims were intentionally spread online to attract attention and generate financial profit through views and engagement. Kim Se-ui has denied wrongdoing. In a recent video, he claimed the investigation against him was an attempt to interfere with his own reporting activities. Career and Mental Health Impact on Kim Soo-hyun The allegations severely affected Kim Soo-hyun’s public image and professional career. Police documents reportedly state that the scandal damaged his reputation, disrupted his business activities, and harmed his ability to continue working in the entertainment industry. Authorities also revealed that the actor is currently receiving psychiatric treatment due to the emotional stress linked to the controversy. Kim Soo-hyun has repeatedly denied all accusations connected to the case. South Korea’s Celebrity Culture Under Pressure Celebrities in South Korea often face intense public scrutiny. Even minor controversies can lead to major backlash, damaged careers, and loss of public support. Before her death, Kim Sae-ron had already faced criticism online following a 2022 drink-driving incident. Despite being considered one of the country’s most talented young actresses, she struggled with public criticism after the case. Following her death, rumors about her alleged relationship with Kim Soo-hyun quickly spread across social media platforms. The controversy gained momentum after the release of the alleged audio recording and edited messages. Kim Soo-hyun’s agency initially denied that the two stars had ever been romantically involved.

Tulsi Gabbard Resigns as US Intelligence Chief Amid Family Health Crisis Tulsi Gabbard has announced her resignation from the role of US director of national intelligence after her husband was diagnosed with bone cancer. She said her family now needs her full attention during a difficult time. Her resignation will officially take effect on 30 June. President Donald Trump confirmed that Aaron Lukas, the principal deputy director, will serve as acting intelligence chief after her departure. Gabbard Says Family Comes First In her resignation letter, Gabbard explained that her husband Abraham is preparing for a serious medical battle in the coming months. She said she could not continue managing one of the country’s most demanding national security positions while supporting her husband through treatment. Trump praised Gabbard for her work in the administration and said she had served the country with dedication. He also expressed confidence that her husband would recover successfully. Growing Tensions Over Iran Policy Gabbard remained one of Trump’s strongest political allies during the 2024 presidential campaign. She later became a key figure in the administration after taking charge of US intelligence operations in early 2025. However, tensions reportedly increased inside the administration over the conflict with Iran. Gabbard has often supported a less aggressive foreign policy and previously warned against deep military involvement overseas. Questions about Iran’s nuclear program also placed her under political pressure. During congressional hearings, lawmakers challenged differences between intelligence reports and statements made by the White House regarding Iran’s nuclear capabilities. At one point, Trump publicly rejected Gabbard’s assessment that Iran was not actively building a nuclear weapon. He insisted Iran was very close to developing one and used that argument to defend US military action. Senior Officials Continue Leaving Administration Gabbard becomes the fourth Cabinet level official to leave the Trump administration this year. Earlier departures included Kristi Noem, Pam Bondi, and Lori Chavez-DeRemer. Her resignation also follows the earlier exit of former National Counterterrorism Center Director Joe Kent, who reportedly disagreed with the administration’s direction on Iran policy. Despite earlier disagreements, Gabbard later publicly supported Trump’s authority as commander in chief and defended his decisions regarding national security threats. What Happens Next? Aaron Lukas will temporarily oversee the Office of the Director of National Intelligence while the administration prepares to nominate a permanent replacement. Gabbard has not announced her future political plans. For now, she says her focus will remain on supporting her husband and family during his treatment.

The World Health Organization has raised the public health risk of the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo from “high” to “very high” as infections continue to spread across the country. Health officials reported nearly 750 suspected Ebola cases and 177 suspected deaths linked to the outbreak. The virus strain involved in this outbreak is the rare Bundibugyo species, which currently has no approved vaccine. WHO Raises Alert Level WHO Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus announced the updated risk assessment during a health briefing in Geneva. He said the national threat level in DR Congo is now considered “very high,” while the regional risk across Africa remains “high.” However, the global risk is still classified as “low.” According to health officials, 82 Ebola cases have already been confirmed in DR Congo, including seven confirmed deaths. Rare Ebola Strain Creates Concern The Bundibugyo strain of Ebola worries experts because researchers have limited tools to fight it. Unlike other Ebola types, this rare species does not yet have a proven vaccine. Ebola is a dangerous viral disease that usually spreads from infected animals to humans. Fruit bats are believed to be the natural carriers of the virus. In some cases, outbreaks begin after people handle or consume infected animals. Although the Bundibugyo strain is considered less deadly than some other Ebola variants, it still kills nearly one third of infected patients. Oxford Scientists Working on New Vaccine Scientists at University of Oxford are currently developing a new vaccine to target the Bundibugyo strain. Researchers believe the vaccine could enter clinical trials within the next two to three months. The team is using technology similar to the one used to create the AstraZeneca Covid vaccine. Experts have already started animal testing in Oxford to study the vaccine’s effectiveness. However, researchers say they still need further testing before confirming whether the vaccine works safely in humans. India Could Help Produce Vaccine The Serum Institute of India is expected to help mass produce the vaccine once scientists provide medical grade materials. Meanwhile, another experimental Bundibugyo vaccine is also under development. Early reports suggest researchers may need six to nine months before they can begin testing that vaccine. Uganda Monitoring Situation Closely Health officials also confirmed two Ebola cases and one death in neighbouring Uganda. Authorities said both infected individuals had recently travelled from DR Congo. Despite the cases, WHO described the situation in Uganda as stable and said officials continue to monitor the spread carefully.

Early Filming Activity in Liverpool This week, film vehicles were spotted around central Liverpool, giving fans a first look at the production returning to the city. A damaged Gotham Police cruiser was also seen near Queensway Tunnel, adding to the growing buzz. Sources indicate that this stage of activity is part of a technical recce.
