A two year old boy who survived six days trapped beneath the rubble of his home has become a symbol of hope in Venezuela after rescue teams pulled him to safety. His aunt has now promised to care for him while the search for his missing parents continues. Kleiber Moran was rescued from the remains of his family home in La Guaira during an overnight operation carried out by an international rescue team. His survival has inspired people across the country as thousands of families continue to face the heartbreaking effects of the devastating earthquakes. Officials described the rescue as a rare moment of hope during an ongoing disaster that has claimed thousands of lives and left many people missing. Aunt Promises to Protect Her Nephew Twenty three year old Andreína Sarmiento rushed to the hospital after learning that her nephew had been rescued alive. She said the emotional moment overwhelmed her, and she immediately traveled to be by his side. Andreína shared that she will care for Kleiber with all the love and support she can give until her sister is found. Although she has never been a mother, she said she feels responsible for protecting the young boy during this difficult time. She explained that her sister often joked that Kleiber was like her own son. Those memories now make her determination even stronger as the family waits for more news. Child Recovering Well in Hospital Doctors say Kleiber escaped without any broken bones despite spending nearly a week trapped beneath collapsed concrete. He only suffered minor scratches on his arms and legs. When he first arrived at the hospital, the toddler was frightened and cried constantly. After receiving medical care and rest, his condition improved quickly. Andreína said he now talks to her, gives her little kisses, and points to the places where he still feels pain. He is spending his recovery surrounded by toys and other children who also survived the earthquake. Search Continues for Missing Parents While the family celebrates Kleiber's remarkable survival, they remain deeply worried about his parents, Ana Luz and Carlos, who are still missing. Rescue teams continue searching through damaged buildings in the hope of finding more survivors. Every successful rescue brings renewed determination to families waiting for news of their loved ones. For Andreína, joy and sadness exist side by side. She feels grateful that her nephew survived, yet she continues to pray that her sister and brother in law will also be found alive. The rescue of the young boy has become a powerful reminder that hope can still emerge even after days beneath the rubble.

Christian Brothers Pause Abuse Victim Payouts as Compensation Crisis Deepens Australian Court Approves Temporary Payment Freeze The Christian Brothers have received temporary approval from an Australian court to pause compensation payments to survivors of child sexual abuse. The religious order argued that it no longer has enough money to continue paying the growing number of civil claims filed against it. The court granted the temporary pause to allow survivors time to review a proposed settlement plan. Under this proposal, the Christian Brothers want to sell their remaining properties and use the money to provide partial compensation to victims. The decision has delayed several ongoing legal cases until the next court hearing, which is expected in September. Compensation Claims Far Exceed Available Assets According to court documents, the Christian Brothers estimate they owe about A$774 million in compensation. However, the order currently holds only A$23 million in cash and property assets worth around A$216 million. Because of this large financial gap, the organization says it cannot fully meet all compensation claims unless it sells its remaining real estate. Earlier this week, the Christian Brothers became the first Catholic religious order in Australia to propose liquidation in response to the growing financial pressure. Long History of Abuse Allegations The Christian Brothers, founded in Ireland, have operated schools and orphanages across Australia and New Zealand since the 1850s. Over several decades, many former students accused members of the order of sexually abusing children in their care. Investigations later uncovered widespread abuse dating back to the 1950s. A major Australian inquiry in 2013 found that the Christian Brothers failed to protect vulnerable children. The investigation also concluded that senior leaders knew about many abuse allegations but did not take proper action to stop them. Several members of the order were later convicted of child sexual abuse offences. Hundreds of Survivors Still Waiting Many survivors continue to seek justice through civil lawsuits and Australia's National Redress Scheme. Reports show that dozens of abuse cases were already scheduled for trial, while hundreds of additional compensation applications remain under review. Because of the court's decision, these cases will now remain on hold until the next hearing. Some survivors expressed disappointment and frustration. They said they hoped to resolve their claims quickly so they could move forward with their lives. The judge explained that the temporary pause would give claimants enough time to consider the proposed settlement before any final decisions are made. Questions Raised Over Property Transfers The Australian government has also raised concerns about property transfers made by the Christian Brothers to Edmund Rice Education Australia (EREA). Officials are examining whether these transfers reduced the order's ability to compensate abuse survivors. Some properties reportedly changed ownership for as little as one Australian dollar, while their combined value is now estimated at around A$2 billion. Government lawyers argued that any attempt to protect assets from compensation claims would raise serious legal and ethical concerns. EREA has responded by stating that it manages schools independently and is not responsible for the financial liabilities of the Christian Brothers. Schools Face Uncertainty The proposed property sales have also created uncertainty for schools connected to the Christian Brothers. In New Zealand, the board of St Thomas of Canterbury College has announced that it will work to keep the school operating on its current campus despite concerns about the ownership of the land. Meanwhile, abuse allegations involving Christian Brothers institutions have also emerged in the United Kingdom, the United States, and Canada. In 2013, the North American branch paid compensation to around 400 survivors of child sexual abuse. The latest developments mark another significant chapter in the long-running legal and financial challenges facing the Christian Brothers as survivors continue their fight for justice and compensation.

Australia Space Agency Identifies Likely Source of Mystery Space Balls Found on Queensland Beach Residents of northern Queensland were left surprised after six large silver spheres washed up on Forrest Beach near Townsville. At first, no one knew where the objects had come from, leading to widespread curiosity and safety concerns. The Australian Space Agency (ASA) has now identified the most likely source of the mysterious objects. According to the agency, the spheres appear to be pressure vessels from a space launch vehicle. Officials believe the objects are consistent with debris from a foreign rocket that recently re entered Earth's atmosphere. Although investigators have not yet confirmed the exact launch vehicle, the agency is working with international authorities to identify its origin. Authorities Secure the Area Local emergency services quickly responded after the discovery. The Queensland Fire Department created a 50 metre exclusion zone around the objects and warned residents not to approach or touch them. Officials advised anyone who finds a similar object to move away immediately and contact emergency services. Safety experts took extra precautions because the spheres could still contain dangerous substances. Specialist crews wearing protective suits carefully collected the metal balls. They placed them inside hazardous material containers while police secured the area. Authorities wanted to eliminate any possible risk before transporting the objects for further examination. Why Experts Considered the Objects Dangerous Some space experts suggested the spheres could be propellant or pressure tanks from a rocket. If that is correct, they may contain small amounts of highly flammable or chemically reactive materials left over from the launch. Although officials have not confirmed the presence of hazardous chemicals, they continue to treat the objects with extreme caution until testing is complete. Local Community Reacts The discovery quickly became the main topic of conversation in the quiet coastal community. Lisa Scobie, owner of Forrest Beach Takeaway, said unusual events rarely happen in the area. She explained that the arrival of emergency crews and investigators created excitement and curiosity among local residents, who wanted to know where the mysterious objects had come from. Similar Discoveries Have Happened Before This is not the first time space debris has reached Australian shores. In 2023, Indian authorities confirmed that a large metal dome found on a beach in Western Australia belonged to one of the country's Polar Satellite Launch Vehicles (PSLV). A similar metal sphere also appeared in remote grasslands in Namibia in 2011. Experts at that time believed it was a fuel or bladder tank from an unmanned rocket. They suspected it had once contained hydrazine, a highly volatile rocket propellant. Investigation Continues The Australian Space Agency continues to work with international partners to verify the rocket responsible for the debris. Investigators will examine the recovered objects before making a final determination. Until the investigation ends, authorities are asking the public to avoid any unidentified metal objects that could be connected to space launches and report them immediately to emergency services.
